Amaroo Bangalow
Byron Bay Hinterland
Updated: Aug 25, 2025
Amaroo Bangalow is a luxury eco retreat on a 213 acre working cattle farm in the heart of Byron Bay’s lush and majestic hinterland in Northern NSW.
Centred on nature, this retreat gives back to the environment and is devoted to regeneration, sustainability and nurturing native ecosystems where guests tread lightly on the planet and slow down to connect with the land and with each other.
The homestead overlooks the Bangalow ridge and comprises four architecturally-designed stand-alone studios and one shared central lounge pavilion. Guests can book an individual cabin for an intimate getaway or book the whole property, with both options giving exclusive access to the property, gardens and pavilions.
The shared central spaces were inspired by the owner’s love of bringing family and friends together. There is a commercial-grade kitchen, a 14-person indoor dining table and a generous deck with a wood-fired pizza oven and large table overlooking the pool, offering views across rolling green valleys.
Every detail of Amaroo is focused on nature, from the soft touch of natural linens to the raw beauty of natural materials, each aspect is in harmony with the landscape. Perhaps the highlight is the opportunity to sleep among the treetops, embracing breathtaking views of dewy rainforests from every room with floor-to-ceiling windows.
Guests seeking slow adventures can make time for leisurely morning walks through the gardens of native Grevilleas, Eucalyptus & Banksias, find picnic spots by bubbling brooks or in a hidden nook, and champagne soirees by the scenic sunset swing or by the private plunge pool. Wildlife on the property include koalas, wallabies, black cockatoos, platypus, water dragons and rainbow-coloured birds.
Private outdoor showers among the rainforests or under a starlit sky are another chance to get close to nature.
The working cattle farm means you will see the 80 head of Black Angus cattle that are on the property.
Guests can play a part in farm life, such as collecting fresh eggs from the free range chicken that wander through the gardens.
Dogs and cats are welcome and can enjoy plenty of room to roam, with the safety of gated fully-fenced areas.
