Updated: Oct 27, 2023

Ground n Sound (known by regulars as GNS) celebrates a love of coffee and the joy of music and is located a block west of Chirn Park but still in the foodie pocket at 23 Musgrave.  This is another unmissable establishment which stands out thanks to its colourful graffiti mural-laden walls and huge “live Music” sign.  Conceived in 2017, this is the place where great coffee meets equally great music.

There are so many reasons to visit GNS, starting with checking out the fabulous funky outdoor art.  Venture inside and you’ll be surprised to see the walls and ceilings covered with work from famous global and local upcoming artists and photographers.  This place is also choc-full of music paraphernalia, featuring legends like the Doors, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Queen, INXS, Oasis and Nick Cave, to name a few.

Despite the collection, there is still ample seating both indoors and out with standard tables and well-appointed retro sofas in all the lounge areas.

Under subdued chandelier lighting, the busy bar and cluttered counter serves up single origin coffee and other hot beverages accompanied with breakfast, lunch or evening tapas prepared by GNS head chef whose passion is food.

Breakie favourites include the house-made pancakes and full English breakfast.  Popular lunch dishes include the steak sandwich with brie and chilli jam and the Thai-style salad chicken served with mesclun, capsicum, red onions, cherry tomato, kaffir lime leaves and mint finished with Thai style dressing.  There are some wonderful tapas options as well, like the gluten-free North African aromatic Moroccan chicken wings, the vegetarian vegan garlic mushroom bruschetta served on toasted sourdough, the sautéed honey garlic glazed meatballs and the hand-crafted grilled slider (which has vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options available).

GNS is also a licenced venue serving beer, wines, spirits and music themed cocktails.  And in more good news, GNS is an animal friendly venue and provides water bowls and treats for your four-legged friends.

This special space provides an atmosphere where music lovers can listen to a wide variety of music genres while enjoying a tasty beverage and a good meal.  And the GNS Spotify playlist lets you continue to tune in after you leave!

So in the words of Liam Gallagher, why not bring your love of music (and your pooch) in to experience a champagne supernova in the sky!
