BSKT CAFE HAS MOVED TO THE OXLEY AT NOBBY BEACH AND AWAITS A NEW REVIEW.

BSKT Café, tucked away next to the patrolled beachfront at Nobby Beach, is an absolute Gold Coast gem that is perpetually packed to the rafters with locals.

Bskt Cafe Nobby Beach

And for good reason, for this funky casual eatery that inhabits the old character-filled Nobbys grocery shop (that for decades served sandy barefoot customers straight up from the beach for an ice-cream or bag of lollies) dishes up top notch wholesome food that is as delicious as it is healthy.

Owner Sel hails from Melbourne and set up the café when he couldn’t find the kind of nutritious super food driven menu he was looking for. Permeating the numerous breakfast and lunch choices are paleo style options and health-giving ingredients including Cacao, Kale, Quinoa, Acai Berries, Chia Seeds, Olive Leaf, Apple Cider Vinegar and Coco Whip and Crunch while at every table there’s a bowl of coconut sugar.

While the health-conscious are right at home here, those who’ve never heard of any of the above will find themselves a convertee after just one sitting because BSKT’s food comes from the ‘tastes so good it can’t possibly be that healthy’ school.

Breakfast choices include Quinoa and Coconut Porridge, Super Berry Cacao Pancakes and the local’s fave BSKT Health Benny – poached free range eggs topped with kalenaise (the delicious kale version of hollandaise sauce) with smoked salmon or grilled ham and spinach on a choice of toast.

Or those who’ve worked up a big appetite in the surf can go for the hearty BSKT Big Breakfast of grilled leg ham, free range eggs, Angus sirloin, slow roast tomato, sweet potato quinoa croquette, forest mushrooms and spinach.

And for a pick me up any time of day there’s quick serve 'Bowls' like the Granola BSKT Bowl – macqui-infused BSKTCoco whip topped with paleo veganola.

For lunch diners can go for Smaller or Larger plates, depending on appetite, with the former featuring choices like DIYFresh Spring Rolls, Vegan Paleo Pasta or Warm Salad of Australian Quinoa (forest mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, shredded beetroot, carrot, asparagus with spinach and lime essential oil vinaigrette.

The Larger options include must-try seared Wild Tuna, a house signature garnished with coconut, fresh basil, cashews, smoked mackerel and quinoa salad, Gado Gado, Argentinian Steak, 18 hr Sticky Pork or the BSKT Burger (ground Angus beef on a wholemeal bun with beetroot relish, tomato, spinach, goats cheese, grilled leg ham, fries and aioli).

And for those who can’t decide, there’s a Grazing Board of chef’s selections (with vegetarian option).

Diners can graze on the side with French fries and aioli, smoked salmon, BSKT House salad or follow up with something sweet like BSKT’s Gluten Free Donuts, Coconut Sorbet or Orange and Almond cake with Yoghurt.

The drinks list is as extensive as the menu at BSKT, with organic coffee in all shapes and forms, organic leaf teas, fresh fruit and vegetable juices, organic soft drinks and smoothies galore (including special protein smoothies), almond or soy milk, boosters and specialty drinks.

Being licensed, there’s the option of craft beers (including Byron Bay and Burleigh Brewing Company), James Squire ciders, red or white wine varietals (including BSKT house wine) and wicked but nice cocktails such as Nobbys Spicy Apple, Macerated Moonshine and Summer Dream.

And that’s not all: BSKT is also a parent’s dream, with a small range of healthy kids meals (all including freshly-squeezed juice) and a fantastic picket-fenced astro turf play area under cover out back, with all manner of toys, a pretend kitchen, doll’s house and retro 70s chairs. And for the youngest, plenty of high chairs are also available.

Dogs are also welcome, to be secured on the footpath dining area out front.

Need to know: BSKT is open for a 3 course dinner with glass of BSKT wine for $45* on Friday and Saturday nights. Everything on the menu is well-coded for those with dietary requirements - from gluten-free to vegetarian, anti-oxidant to protein, and served-all-day.

Nice to know: Upstairs there’s a BSKT yoga studio with ocean breezes.
