Ze Pickle
Burleigh Heads
Ze Pickle is the unconventional cool kid on the Burleigh Heads block – a craft beer, cocktail and burger bar where edgy urban street meets cabin in the woods.
In fact there’s something about Ze Pickle that harks back to a time when men were men – walls made from railway sleepers that were hauled to Burleigh from the outback, beer in especially designed beer glasses, hand-crafted metal street furniture, a bar adorned with number plates, boar head on the wall and Triple Loco burgers the size of your head.

In the evenings a crowd congregates on the hand-crafted stools and benches in the street ‘beer garden’ under the fairy lit pandanus tree, sharing good times, decadent burgers and craft beers until the wee hours. And on weekends surfers who’ve worked up an appetite drop in during the day for their fix of what some swear are the best burgers in this neck of the coast.

Just like the rest of Ze Pickle there’s nothing ordinary about the copious burgers: try the Pulled Pig (yes, pork), The Jerk (chicken), Double Double, Chee-ze, Taco Burger, Lamb (made from tender lamb backstrap), Vegetarian (grilled cheese and funghi) or one that sorts the men from the boys - Pablo Escoburger – a mountainous affair involving ground Wagyubeef, cheese, guacamole, green spiced Jalapeno, avocado and sour cream.
As well as the burgers there are sliders (each serve comes with a choice of 2), such as Philly Cheese Steak, The Original (beef) , Jerk or Pulled Pig; while bar snacks include Chicken Weang’s (Buffalo or Smoky BBQ), Crunchy beef strips with dipping sauce or Kanye’s cheesesticks.

Beers are all craft, change often and are not your average brew – think Anchor from San Francisco, Rogue from Oregon, Epic or Parrot Dog from NZ, Moo Brew from Oz (there’s a handful of NZ ciders as well).
As spirits go, Ze Pickle is something of a tequila and whisky place and when it comes to cocktails they all pack a punch. The Janice (a tribute to Ms Joplin) is a heady mix of Tanqueray, wild strawberry messenez, fresh blackberry and lime, or try the Bubb hubb hubba – wild grape bubblegum, vodka, fresh lime, lemonade and maraschino cherries.
