Dayo Cafe is a charming boathouse-style cafe with a Filipino-fusion menu perched on the Tweed River in Tweed Heads.
Diners can take a seat inside the white light-filled space, on the glass-framed balcony to enjoy the the stunning water views, or in the leafy garden courtyard under the shade of a tree.
The cafe has a retro vibe, with bright colourful touches to contrast with the white, including a pink ceiling, blue-striped and green chairs and artworks on the courtyard wall.
The delectable menu features a tempting range of all day breakfast and brunch (from 9am) dishes catering to both savoury and sweet palates.
On the all day breakfast menu you'll find dishes like Spicy Longannisa Scramble Eggs (spicy Filipino sausage, grana padano, chives, chilli oil & sourdough); Lao Gan Eggs (2 fried eggs, garlic labneh, Lao Gan Ma chilli, herbs & sourdough); and Benny-San - pork chashu or teriyaki mushrooms - (2 poached eggs, milk loaf, Hollandaise, spicy sesame seeds & herbs).
There's also a selection of breaky rolls, including Longganisa Breaky muffin (spicy Filipino patty, souffle egg, cheddar, aioli & pickles on English muffin); Eggs on Muffin (souffle egg, cheddar & aioli on English muffin); or bacon and egg roll with tomato or BBQ sauce.
The Brunch menu starts at 9am, and includes dishes like K-Pop Chicken Waffle (snowy cheese fried chicken, waffle, pickled radish, spicy maple, roast pepper and tomato marscapone); Teriyaki Mushroom Rice Bowl (mixed mushrooms, white rice, pickles & greens); Tortang Talong (eggplant omelette, garlic labneh, baba ghanoush quinoa salad, piclked zucchini & lemon pangratto); as well as Dayo Double Cheeseburger (bistek mayo, pickles, onion & cheddar) or Bad Bird (fried chicken burger with kewpie mayo, picle radish & cos).
Drinks-wise, the house specialty at Dayo Cafe is the Iced matcha (strawberry, blueberry or peach mango); as well as Thai Milk tea and Hazelnut Cold Brew. There's also a refreshing Dayo Spritz. milkshakes and smoothies.
Hot drinks include Ground Control coffee, chai, matcha latte and hot chocolate as well as a small selection of teas including mint and green tea. Otherwise there's orange juice, cold brew and iced coffee or chocolate.
Good to know - Dayo Cafe have a small childrens menu. The name 'Dayo' means welcome in Filipino.
