Board Short Barista is fabulously located, nestled into the southside of the Coolangatta Surf Life Saving Club on Marine Parade, just steps from the sand and swell of Cooly beach.
This wonderful hole-in-the-wall coffee shop and café opens out onto the pandanus-shaded grass of Queen Elizabeth Park and is a popular community hangout and fabulous place to refuel and relax.
Step off the sandy path from the beach at Lifeguard Tower 3 and you're greeted by the bright 50s-style navy blue and sunflower yellow striped umbrellas and alfresco garden setting, shaded under the pandanus palms and tall pines. This delightful leafy setting offers a scattering of bright shaded bar tables, lazy lawn chairs and pretty picnic tables and is the perfect place to park your bike, pram or pooch and take a break.
A day at the beach, swimming the crystal Cooly waters or walking the shady shore, will surely work up your appetite. And when you are feeling hungry, follow the trail of peckish people from the tower to this precious local source of sustenance. BSB (as the locals nickname it) serves coffee that is a cracking crowd-pleaser from Cosmorex’ Double Barrel blend, giving nutty notes and a chocolate syrup finish that keeps them coming back for more. There is a selection of sweet and fluffy fresh cabinet treats for those on the run with their coffee including brekky wraps, salad rolls, toasted Turkish, baguettes, raisin toast, banana bread, muffins, brownies, croissants and Danishes.
The simple-yet-satisfying breakfast menu offers bacon and egg brioche, pumpkin, spinach and feta fritters, Belgian waffles and smashed avo to name a few. Lunch favourites include dory and chips, and the grilled chicken, wagyu or chickpea and lentil burgers. Choose from six delightful smoothie options including the indulgent, açai and banana, along with detox, reboot and booster vegan options. There are iced drinks, origin teas, juices and shake, as well as a few cheeky specials, like the Chunky Monkey shake, thrown in.
