Norté is a slick glamorous Latin American restaurant from the savvy team behind Rick Shores, located in The Oxley precinct at Nobby Beach.
Spread across one level below its sibling rooftop bar Sueño, Norté is a stunning vision of chic, incorporating a plant-fringed roof terrace with sunset views and a dimlit interior divided into intimate dining nooks and spaces.
Inside the textured dining areas feature golden striped banquettes, designer timber and tile-topped furniture and popcorn ceilings and feature walls, lit by low-hanging pendant lights.
A striking ceiling to floor wine cabinet and bar takes centre place on one side, whilst on the other the kitchen features a custom built hearth.
On the delectable menu are bar snacks and raw starters including Mooloolaba spanner crab churro, cucumber, aple & jalapeno; scallop, mango, bee pollen, chilli & grapefruit; and Ora king salmon, nori, Davidson plum aguachile & pickled oca yam.
Masa (dough-based dishes) include West Australian octopus taco, tomato, sobrasada & chimichurri; braised mushroom tetela, pickled fungi & spices; or beef tostada, fermented chilli, smoked agretti & Tati kombu.
For mains there's a choice of slow cooked short rib, al pastor aji amarillo & pineapple; chilli glazed pork, lilly pilli mole and salad; charred half chicken, white bean mole & pickled eggplant; or flank steak, native chimichurri & caramelised onion.
There's also whole fish - either grilled coral trout with koji butter, guacachille & green pico de gallo; or BBQ gold band snapper, carrot and Oaxacan chilli salad.
Desserts are sensational and worth saving room for, including sunrise lime pisco sour with pistachio crumble (must-try!); strawberry gum semifreddo, rhubrarb & strawberry compote; or dark chocolate and hazelnut tart & apricot chamoy.
The carefully curated drinks list includes signature agave-based cocktails as well as an impressive selection of wines from Central and South America.
Good to know - There is an excellent 8-course banquet for $90pp.
Need to know - Entry is via a lobby and hallway on the Gold Coast Highway, with an elevator or stairs up to the restaurant, which is on the first floor.
