Elston Restaurant & Bar
Surfers Paradise
Located in the heart of Surfers Paradise below Peppers Soul on The Esplanade, Elston is a Gold Coast food institution, nostalgically named for the 1920’s land we know now as Surfers Paradise.
Directly across from the famous beach, Elston has lovely ocean views, and its menu takes it from urban deli-fresh casual eating by day to sophisticated wine bar and restaurant by night.
Outdoors Elston is blessed with a huge curb-side covered courtyard dining space, which also offers rustic industrial timber and metal bar and standard table-top seating. Indoors Elston has an old school and industrial feel like an Italian restaurant of old, with subtly lit bench and bar style seating under leafy timber and rattan ceiling fixtures along the glossy black subway tiled and well stocked bar.
The Locale espresso machine at the front of the bar serves up the smooth ‘Ultimate Wingman’ blend, made up of Colombian, Brazilian and Indian beans, with caramel, dark choc and hazelnut notes, it’s described as consistent, trustworthy and loyal – like any great wingman. It’s full-body, mild acidity and balanced finish make it the crowd-pleaser and go-to blend for coffee lovers.
The bar itself is indeed a feature, with extensive wine racks, a selection of on tap beer, and shelves of Campari, Pimms and Aperol Spritz amongst other spirits. There’s an abundance of fresh fruit on display – lemons, limes, pineapples and apples – obviously ready to be freshly juiced or make up one of the many classic cocktails or martinis on the drinks menu.
Elston focuses on the art of the dining experience, offering breakfast as the waves crash on the beach, tapas a little later as the sunlight glistens over the shoreline, or a delectable dinner of holistic and rustic dishes as the sun sets. The enticing menu offers breakfast favourites including the Elston Feast (big breakfast), mixed mushrooms on rye, chilli feta eggs, avo crush, Açaí bowls and of course, eggs Benny.
Elston’s head chef has reinvented classic dishes with new techniques, and you’ll love the All Day delights starting with small plates like oysters, rib fingers, sticky wings, chilli prawns and sriracha fried baby squid, perfect for sharing. Mouth-watering mains include the crispy skin market fresh Barramundi, the Thai poached salmon, haloumi chicken Parma, BBQ back ribs, and of course specialities from the char grill.
There is a dedicated and thoughtful children’s menu and live entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights. Elston has everything.
