Haig St Cafe & Restaurant
Kirra
Haig St Cafe & Restaurant is situated on the corner of Haig and Musgrave Streets in the heart of Kirra’s beachfront food strip.
The unique design and flavoursome food have made Haig St a favourite hang for early morning breakfasts and late afternoon lunches.
Originally the site of a petrol station (pictured on the restaurant wall), Haig St is the younger sister of Kirramisu next door, but it has a personality all its own. Basking in morning sunlight, with vistas of the grassy foreshore and sparkling waves from the ample seating, the welcoming golden décor of the leafy café carries a relaxed Mediterranean feel.
Haig St proudly serves Havana Moon specialty roasted coffee blend from Dimattina’s Inception roasting facility in Melbourne, which combines some of the world’s finest single estate arabica coffees. Havana Moon is a central and South American origin coffee that has a balanced yet invigorating cocoa aroma, rich in taste with sweet honey sweet flavour and notes of Belgian chocolate. Haig St also serves loose-leaf tea, fruit frappes, blended smoothies and cold-pressed juices.
Haig Street’s two-page breakfast menu has some really interesting offerings, like crispy polenta topped with sautéed wild mushrooms (served with cherry tomatoes, asparagus, two poached eggs and wild rocket with a side of sweet tomato relish) and Italian house beans with Cannellini (cooked in a rich Napoli sauce topped with two poached eggs and shaved parmesan served with a side of crispy polenta fingers).
You’ll find all the breakfast classics on offer, from potato rosti to Belgian waffles, from sticky-date pancakes to sweet potato and corn fritters, from the halloumi brekky bowl to eggs bene and beyond. There is a breakfast feast to suit everyone’s taste. The lunch menu is full of share plates and light options, as well as toasted wraps, sandwiches and burgers. There are some stand-out mains like Mexican spiced fish tacos, Turmeric battered snapper, and pan-fried roast pumpkin gnocchi, but the entire menu is a revelation. There are also gluten-free, vegan and child-friendly menu options.
For those seeking a stronger beverage Haig is also fully licensed from 10am, serving craft beers (including Fifty Lashes and Balta), bubbles (French German and local), as well as some of Australia and New Zealand's most impressive red and white wines.
