Coolangatta to Point Danger Oceanway

If you’re looking for a wonderful way to explore the environment of the south end of the Gold Coast, while also getting some nature therapy and a little bit of exercise, a seaside stroll along Gold Coast’s famous Oceanway is the perfect option. 

The Oceanway is a 37-kilometre purpose-built pathway for walkers and cyclists running from Point Danger in the south to the Spit in the northern Gold Coast.  The two-kilometre section from Coolangatta to Point Danger is particularly picturesque providing awe-inspiring coastal views from Coolangatta all the way to the skyline of Surfers Paradise, not to mention the spectacular views south over the Tweed River from Point Danger.

You can start either end of this walk but we recommend kicking off at Queen Elizabeth Park near the Coolangatta Surf Club and heading south to Point Danger. 

Choose a clear day and allow yourself an hour to do the return walk and enjoy exploring as you go.  This walk takes in Coolangatta Beach, Greenmount, Pat Fagan Park, Rainbow Bay Lookout, Rainbow Bay, Snapper Rocks, Froggy Beach and the Captain Cook Memorial and Lighthouse at Point Danger.

The best times to walk are obviously early morning or sunset out of the heat of the middle of the day.  This is also when you’ll get the most stunning skies!

The smooth sealed Oceanway track caters to all abilities and can be popular, so you’re likely to be sharing the path with other walkers, joggers, cyclists, dogs on-leash, prams and scooters.

Surfers also like to enter the surf break from Greenmount point so they are a common sight jogging along the path from the surf club.

Track Length: 4km return (60 minutes)

Track Difficulty: Easy walk, smooth sealed Oceanway track.

Facilities: There are public toilets, children’s playgrounds, ample Coolangatta street parking or carpark at Point Danger.
