HOTA

Updated: Oct 27, 2023

Experience an evening of free art with the amazing sound and light show that is WONDER! HOTA is hosting this large scale art performance outdoors for 10 days through to Sunday 15 October (excluding Friday 13 Oct).

Wonder returns to HOTA’s Outdoor Stage with Borealis, an immersive light installation that brings the experience of the Northern Lights to the Gold Coast. Invite along your friends and family and grab a bite to eat as you’re enveloped in colour, light, and sound.

The 2023 edition of Wonder is titled Borealis, and features Dan Acher illuminating the night sky and envelop the Outdoor Stage in colour, light, and sound. Borealis will present on the lawns of HOTA’s Outdoor Stage and be complimented by additional live music and food on selected nights.

Bring a picnic dinner and hang out under the lights of Borealis or grab a small bite to eat from our Airstream food truck. A vast selection of culinary treats and street eats will be available on Sat 14 Oct for Night Bites Under Lights.

If you haven't yet had a chance to enjoy this immersive inspiring experience, pop it in your diary!

Please note: Borealis is weather dependent and and can sometimes be less visible in windy conditions. Friday night is closed to the public.

About Borealis

Shown all around the world, this immersive installation brings the experience of the Northern Lights, Aurora Borealis, to the skies of the Gold Coast.

Time slows down as eyes look up to form the celestial phenomenon that has attributed to countless legends throughout the ages. As captivating as it is disturbing, Dan Acher’s Borealis is about our ancestral communion with nature and our more recent compulsion to control it. It’s about inspiring shared emotions in the centre of a city by creating something magical - something that shouldn’t naturally be there.

Borealis is as much a work of art as it is a technological performance. Variations in movement, colour and density of the light beams, together with changing weather conditions, give infinite variations of the work. A unique aurora is created each time, all underscored by a musical composition by Guillaume Desbois in a haunting and beautiful dance of light and sound.
