Burleigh Beach to Miami Oceanway Walk

Central Gold Coast Walk

Updated: Aug 29, 2025

Running north from Burleigh Head – the midway point of the Gold Coast – you simply must experience the gorgeous sea vistas offered up on the Oceanway walk to Miami.

Mick Schamburg Lookout

The 4-kilometre section from Burleigh Headland to Miami Beach is particularly picturesque providing awe-inspiring coastal views from Burleigh all the way to the skyline of Surfers Paradise.

To complete the full stretch of this spectacular walk, join the Oceanway at Burleigh Headland to the south.  Alternatively, if you have less time or don’t want to cover as much distance, join anywhere along the Esplanade and head north toward North Burleigh Lookout and onto Marine Parade, Miami to the north.

Burleigh Esplanade

This self-guided walk features informative signs marking the regional flora unique to the area.  This path is popular so walkers will need to watch for bikes, scooters and folks on roller skates.

You’re also bound to see some local fauna crossing your path, like the Australian Brush turkey or the Eastern Water dragon. Just don’t step on them as they sun-bake!

Once you reach Mick Schamburg Park there is a steep incline to Lores Boney Lookout, atop the rainbow-coloured Miami stairs, offer sweeping views over Miami Beach and north to Nobbys, Mermaid, Broadbeach and Surfers Paradise.

Miami Stairs

Downstairs, you enter Don MacSween Park which runs along the foreshore of Miami Beach to Thorn Park. This section of the Oceanway is very popular with dog-walkers, picnickers, cyclists and exercise groups.

Along the foreshore reserve you’ll spot a series of interesting sculptures, including The Joggers and The Sea Lion.  As you complete the final stretch to Miami, you’ll notice it becomes more secluded than its neighbouring stretches to the south and north – still hosting a caravan park and a strip of beach bungalows from the Gold Coast of the past.
